BioAstin astaxanthin supplement review

I've been taking astaxanthin on a regular basis for over a year now and I think it's one of the best supplements out there.  It's an absolute necessity for anyone who likes to get some sun during the summer.

Astaxanthin capsules

Astaxanthin is a type of carotenoid pigment, the same pigment that makes salmon, shrimp, and flamingos pink.  It's a potent antioxidant and it's getting more and more mainstream recognition, even appearing on the Dr. Oz show.

Astaxanthin is supposed to be anti-aging, be good for your eyes and brain, protect your joints, and act as an "internal sunscreen".

I go to the pool a lot in the summer.  I don't wear sunscreen.  Even though I'm fair-skinned, if I've "loaded up" on astaxanthin beforehand and have been very diligent about taking 8mg a day for about a week I do not get sunburned.

My boyfriend is darker complected, so when we went to Panama he did not heed my plea for him to take astaxanthin.  He got sunburned and I didn't.  Usually I'm the one bright red and sitting in the shade on day 2 of vacation. That's what made me a believer in this supplement.

The brand I use, BioAstin, is from Hawaii ^_^

It does stain though... my boyfriend has this habit of keeping his supplements in his pocket so he can take them with meals and he had an astaxanthin burst one day, his pants had a nice flamingo-colored stain all along the side of his pants.

It costs a little over $20 for 120 pills (2 month supply at 2x a day)  on Amazon.  Take it with a spoonful of coconut oil or fish oil supplements.

What are your favorite supplements?
